Galleria Ataköy Mall
Galleria Ataköy, the first modern shopping mall in Turkey, is situated in the western suburb of Ataköy, Istanbul. It was built following the recommendation of then Prime Minister Turgut Özal, who was inspired by the shopping mall Houston Galleria in Houston, Texas, USA. Galleria Ataköy was opened in 1988 by Turgut Özal. Galleria Ataköy reflected the changing face of Turkey in the late 1980s and became a symbol of modern life with the stores selling a wide range of goods, most of them imported, cafés and restaurants, which made going there a popular day out. At weekends in particular, people rushed to Galleria from all over the city. Due to its close distance to Ataköy Yacht Marina and Atatürk International Airport, Galleria was also very popular for tourists. For several years, Galleria was without any competitor, but it blazed a trail down as other shopping malls were opened in Istanbul. Galleria attracts with its 140 stores on two floors an average of 1.2 million visitors monthly. The complex housed Printemps, the renowned French department store, in the beginning. It hosts upscale Turkish stores, features fast food restaurants and cafeterias, entertainment centers, movie theaters, bowling alley and ice skating rink. The shopping mall has a covered car park for 2,000 vehicles. In 1990, Galleria was judged the world’s most outstanding mall by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) for sophisticated blueprint design, rapid construction, and unique structural features.
In comparison to other aquariums of its class containing fish species living in the world’s seas, it is the newest with its travel route, thematization, interactivity, rainforest and cutting-edge technology… Istanbul Akvaryum holds a leading position among worldwide aquariums thanks to its volume, variety of fish species, and the activities on travel routes. It is a project which makes ‘firsts’ and ‘mosts’ in its field. The visitors, by following a geographical route, travel on a route that hosts 16 themes and 1 rainforest going from the Black Sea towards the Pacific. In thematization of the spaces, there appear cultural, geographical, historical and architectural properties of each space with suitable decorative elements, interactive games, movies, and visual graphics by which details about the region are provided. Sound and lighting systems of each space have been arranged in conformity with this thematization. There are many activities at Istanbul Akvaryum, here are some:
This special 15-person movie house takes the people to different worlds with the option to watch 7 separate movies. Guests will perceive what they watch three-dimensionally thanks to special glasses they wear, and will experience a virtual feast by wind, fog, water and touch effects that they have never seen. Differently from what 5D movie houses at shopping malls in Turkey provide, it makes lateral movement possible thanks to its movable platform on six pistons. What is more, 5D 6-axle movie house maximizes the riding pleasure thanks to touch effect and shock blowing to face and nape in addition to wind, fog and water effects and circular motion as well as forward-backwards, rightward-leftward mobility.
Escape from Amazon Labyrinth
